I’ve used the Xhorse VVDI Key Tool Midi Advance on real jobs, including an older Swift Dzire diesel and Mahindra key programming. My overall impression is positive: the key side is strong, and the added diagnostics make it much more useful as an all-in-one tool.
What I Found in Testing
I tested the Key Tool Midi Advance on an older Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire diesel.
Auto Scan didn’t pick it up, but manual selection worked. I could then read faults, view data and clear DTCs. The clear-code screen had a software display issue, but the function itself worked.
The Maruti coverage is useful. Older models such as Swift Dzire, SX4, Ritz, Omni, Ciaz, Ignis and Alto are listed.
I also tested Mahindra key programming. It worked normally. ECM code retrieval was quick, while IMMO code retrieval was slower and roughly comparable to Xtool in my testing.
One thing I like about the Midi Advance is that it covers more than key programming. VVDI Mini Key Tool is handy when I want a small, portable key tool, but the Midi Advance already combines those key functions with diagnostics. That makes more sense when I need broader coverage from one device.
The price is not low, but the value is easier to see when comparing the number of tools it can replace. The original comparison puts one Midi Advance at roughly the price of three to four basic diagnostic tools.
Strengths
- Key programming and diagnostics in one device.
- Strong transponder and remote functions.
- Useful IMMO data functions.
- Good coverage for Maruti and Mahindra jobs.
- More convenient than carrying separate tools for different jobs.
Limitations
- Some older diesel vehicles may require manual vehicle selection.
- A few diagnostic screens can have software/interface quirks.
- IMMO code retrieval can be slower than ECM code retrieval on Mahindra.
Final Take
After using it myself, I’d consider the Xhorse Key Tool Midi Advance if you want key programming and diagnostics in one tool. Compared with the Xhorse Key Tool Plus, it follows the same all-in-one approach while adding diagnostic capability. VVDI Mini is still the more portable option, but for a locksmith who wants broader coverage from one device, the MIDI Advance offers a much more complete setup for daily work.
