Question:
Program BMW Cas3/3+key with xhorse VVDI Key tool plus. OBD or BENCH? What you prefer and what is the success rate OBD job?
Here is the clue.
CAS1, CAS2, CAS3, CAS3++ (no ISTAP version) is easy in OBD.
With a good battery stabilizer and enough voltage and amperage and go.
No ISTAP encryption = no flashing = 3 minutes add key. No need to bench.
If it’s just CAS3/3+ doing it by obd2 is easy and safe. Done soo many this way, simple and quick.
The issue comes with downgrading. Just never downgrade.
If it’s ISTA P, remove the unit and read the eeprom and flash, do it on bench.
Also record the ISN if it’s ever lost again.
VVDI Key Tool Max Pro also do CAS3 via OBD. If lost data, vvdi bimtool can repair data.
If you do, easy to pull and fix on bench.
It’s safe to downgrade CAS with correct tools.
If you prefer bench work, better bench, backup is better.
Tt’s best to bench always, read both data points eeprom/flash and then go about adding or downgrading. i do use the adapters so no soldering… if there is a glitch your always happy you did start with saving the data and could always write it back. lost data one time downgrading… lost the vin and coding but autel has a recover coding function that saved the day. of course with the paid subscription… so using several tool is normal.
